Quick answer

Before recycling: back up your data, factory reset or wipe devices (or ask us to arrange data destruction), remove SIM and memory cards, keep batteries separate, and flag anything heavy or damaged. You don't need to clean, disassemble or box most items.

Back up your data first

Before anything else: copy any files, photos, or documents you want to keep from phones, laptops, tablets, and computers. Once a device is wiped or physically destroyed, data cannot be recovered. This applies to external hard drives too.

Wipe or request data destruction

After backing up, delete accounts, sign out of services, and do a factory reset where possible. For hard drives and SSDs that you can't wipe yourself, or that are physically damaged, ask us to arrange certified data destruction as part of the pickup. This is especially important for business devices.

Remove personal accessories

Separate batteries from other electronics

Keep batteries — UPS, inverter, laptop, phone — in a separate bag or box. If a battery is swollen, leaking, or damaged, do not stack other items on top of it and flag this clearly when booking. See battery recycling for safe interim storage.

Flag heavy or bulky items

Tell us in advance if you have old CRT monitors, server racks, or large UPS units — these need planning for safe transport. Knowing ahead of time avoids delays on pickup day.

What you don't need to do

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it necessary to clean devices before pickup?

Basic cleaning is not required. Focus on removing personal items, SIM cards, memory cards, and ensuring data is backed up before wiping.

What should I do with a device I cannot turn on?

Non-working devices are still accepted. Describe the condition clearly — whether it powers on, any physical damage — so the team can handle it correctly.

Do I need to remove the battery before recycling a laptop?

You don't need to remove it yourself. Just let the team know if the battery is swollen or damaged, and keep such items separate from other electronics.

What if I forget to wipe a device?

Ask about data destruction when booking — we can arrange wiping or shredding as part of the pickup rather than expecting you to do it yourself.
