A hard drive destruction service uses industrial equipment to physically shred hard drives, SSDs and other storage media to particles smaller than 5mm — making data recovery physically impossible. Data wiping (software overwrite) uses algorithms to overwrite all data on a functioning drive — effective but cannot guarantee all over-provisioned areas on SSDs are reached.
